Toby began his photographic career in the mid-1980s as an assistant, working with leading corporate and studio photographers. He then spent nearly a decade shooting promotional and live work for bands, including festival seasons at Glastonbury, Reading and WOMAD. He was the site photographer for the Mean Fiddler organisation, shooting at numerous venues across the UK, with his work published in NME, Melody Maker, Sounds and the national press. In the late 90s he began taking work as a stills photographer on UK feature films, photographing many great actors like Tom Hardy, Michelle Yeoh and Stellan Skarsgård.
In 2006 Toby stopped shooting professionally to pursue his other passion, transport policy. After 8 years as a transport planner at Westminster and Hackney councils, he now works for a boutique sustainable transport planning consultancy. He continues to make photographs for his own pleasure. Toby started his journey into photography at the Weekend Arts College in 1984 and now offers his time there to support new photographers, in the same way he was supported at the beginning of his journey.
